Language Placement Test (LPT)

The University Language Placement Test (LPT) allows students to test their language level in English, French, Spanish, German or Portuguese for the purpose of participating in European and international mobility programmes (e.g. Erasmus, Overworld).

The test takes place in person in the Language Centre computer laboratories. Both for reserving and for taking the test, an Elly page is available for each LPT session. From that page, after taking the test, it will also be possible to download a certificate reporting your language level, should it be useful later on when applying for your assigned foreign university.

The last LPT session took place from 21 to 24 January 2025, with mandatory reservation from 16/12/2024 10:00 am to 16/01/2025 10:00 am.

TEST PREPARATION

In order to prepare for the Language Placement Test you may attend the extracurricular language courses offered by our Centre. Some of them provide an end-of-course level certificate after passing a final test.

Links to online resources for self-study are also available on this website.

Please note:

  • It is advisable to check in advance the requirements of the chosen foreign Universities, in order to check whether the Language Placement Test may be sufficient for your application (and for which languages/levels).
  • LPT certificates, as well as the end-of-course level certificates issued by the Language Centre, are not equivalent to international “language certificates” awarded by external accredited language test providers.
  • LPT certificates are not valid for exemption from the curricular language proficiency test ("idoneità").
