Mission
The Language Centre (CLA: Centro Linguistico di Ateneo), established in 2020, is the cornerstone of the University’s language policies. It is a service centre that promotes modern foreign languages learning, offering students and personnel (both teaching and technical-administrative staff) of the University of Parma the opportunity to test and acquire language skills from basic to advanced levels.
The Centre offers a wide range of courses, which include curricular and extracurricular courses with native-speaker teachers and self-study online courses, aimed at learning and improving various languages, both European and non-European. It also organises tests to verify language skills, both for the achievement of the curricular language proficiency level required by various degree courses (“idoneità”) and for the participation in international mobility programmes (“Language Placement Test”), as well as at the conclusion of extracurricular language courses aimed at consolidating specific levels of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The quality of these services is ensured by the supervision of a Scientific Committee composed by experts in language teaching.
In addition to teaching activities and other support services (such as language counselling for students and professors in the context of specific academic activities, or the collection of online resources for language learning), the Language Centre organises cultural and educational events, including film clubs, workshops and seminars, and promotes initiatives also in collaboration with other structures of the University, contributing to the dissemination of linguistic and intercultural knowledge.
All those who use these services, but not only, have access to the classrooms and to the two modern multimedia laboratories located at the Centre’s premises on the University Campus.
With a dynamic and inclusive approach, the Centre is committed to create a welcoming environment in order to meet the needs of an increasingly globalised and multilingual world.
